Sterntube Seals
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2A
As the classic application, the SC2A seal is mostly used for smaller shaft diameters in vessels with slight draught.
It seals the oil filled sterntube against the sea water.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2C
Most of our seals can be equipped with ceramic coated liners.
This SC2C version is the state-of-the-art optimum in sterntube seal technology with regard to liner wear.
Ceramic coated liners are not available as split type or Airspace.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2B
The standard aft seal SC2B is equipped with an oil bore for pressure control by means of a 30 l tank located in the engine room.
The pressure control was designed for medium and large shaft diameters. It is provided for seals size 400 upwards.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Split type / SC2BE
The SC2 seals can be designed as fully split type to enable the replacement of the complete seal without any shaft works.
The function of the seal will be the same as for Non split seals.
This option is not available for ceramic coated liners.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2Z
With the "Leakproof" system the sterntube gravity tank is arranged in such a way that the lubrication oil pressure in the sterntube is slightly lower than the seawater pressure.
The oil chamber of the seal is connected to a 50 l settling tank via two pipes leading through the sterntube.
With the shaft rotating, oil is circulated by the circulator. Any water entering the oil chamber as a result of extreme operating conditions of the vessel will be diverted through the pipeline to the settling tank and can be drained into the bilge.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2M
The design of the aft "Multisafe" Simplex-Compact seal with the four sealing rings includes a seal ring (3R) which faces the sterntube and serves as a spare ring.
By using appropriate bypasses it is possible to either let this spare ring run without load on the liner or to activate the ring if necessary.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2S (Airspace)
The "Airspace" seal marks the latest development in the Simplex-Compact sealing range:
A 4-ring sealing system with a dedicated air chamber allowing for a perfect separation of sterntube oil and sea water.
The lifetime of the sterntube bearing is increased by eliminating water ingress into the sterntube system. Moreover, oil egress into the sea is excluded.
Simplex-Compact 2000 "Airspace" is certified and approved as a "Non-Pollution Seal" by the leading Classification Societies.
This seal type can be optionally equipped with a Peak Pressure Absorber (PPA) to limit the negative effects of abnormal axial and radial shaft vibrations to the sealing system.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Airspace Control System
To operate the "Non-Pollution" Airspace Seal, an Airspace Control System is needed.
The main components of the Airspace Control System consist of the Controlpanel with electrical and pneumatic parts, an external solenoid valve, the air inlet filter regulator as well as the air/drain piping and the electrical wiring connections.
SC2000 / Forward Seal / Standard / Non split / SC2Z
The forward seal is independent of the aft seal, and can be combined with any of the oil lubricated aft seals.
By means of a small surface-cooled tank, the circulator installed ensures that the oil volume in the chamber between the sealing rings is permanently circulated during operation without the need for a supplementary lubricating unit.
This results in improved cooling as well as constant lubrication of the seal with perfectly clean oil, thus avoiding a deposit of oil residues in the sealing ring lip.
SC2000 / Forward Seal / Water Lubricated / Non split / SC2ZW
This SC2 seal type is designed for water lubricated shafts with open sterntubes.
The seal consists of the main (forward) seal and the standstill seal (Pneumostop) for maintanance or emergency situations.
With the aid of a small surface cooled tank the circulator installed ensures that the volume of water in the chamber between the sealing rings is permanently lubricated and cooled without external devices when the shaft is turning.
This seal type is mainly used at Naval vessels. Based on the shock data for the particular vessel, specific shock calculations can be supplied.
SC2000 / Aft Seal / Net Pick-Up
To protect the aft seal against fishing nets, a Net Pick-Up (made of bronze) can be installed. The split type design facilitates easy assembly.
The Net Pick-Up is mounted at the rotating propeller above the corrosion protection of the aft seal. By the U-section and the gap between the Net Pick-Up and the rope guard it is designed to wind up fishing nets passing the rope guard.
Forward Seal / Water Lubricated Seal / Carboplan / Carboplan-Plus
The Carboplan seal is a mechanical seal for water lubricated sterntubes wich has been used for decades in international submarines.
The new Carboplan-Plus seal has been used internationally in the submarines of several navies since 1984.
All requirements to this type of product, such as resistance to shock, vibration, pressure and corrosion as well as ease of maintenance and repair are fully met by the Carboplan/Carboplan-Plus.
Forward Seal / Water Lubricated / Simplan
The Simplan seal is a mechanical seal for water-lubricated sterntubes for river vessels and seagoing vessels.
Simplan seals meet the highest standards set by the "Central Commission for Rhine Shipping" (European Waterways).
They are certified by Germanischer Lloyd, the American Bureau of Shipping, by Lloyds Register and by ClassNK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai).
Bulkhead Seal / Split type / Centrax
The Centrax is a maintenance free seal for bulkhead openings.
This is a fully split type, maintenance free seal.
In a housing made of aluminium (mounted on the bulkhead opening) there are two segmented carbon rings which is running without lubrication directly on the shaft.
Replacing of the sealing rings can be done without any shaft work.
SC2000 / Bulkhead Seal / Gas Tight / Non split / SC2ZBS
The SC2 Bulkhead Seal is designed for gas- and watertight sealing of shafts leading through bulkheads.
By means of a small surface cooled tank the circulator installed ensures that the oil volume in the chamber between the sealing rings is permanently lubricated and cooled without external devices when the shaft is turning.
This seal is available as Non split or fully split version.
SC2000 / Rudder Stock Seal / Non split / Upper seal
The Upper Rudder Stock Seal is arranged on the steering gear flat.
For difficult locations, for example in the area of the water line, we offer the Simplex-Compact rudder stock seal, which in its design and size available, corresponds to the Simplex-Compact sterntube seal.
Of course all seals can also be manufactured with split-ring elements.
SC2000 / Rudder Stock Seal / Non split / Lower Seal
The Lower Rudder Stock Seal is arranged under the rudder trunk.
This seal is mainly delivered in combination with an Upper Rudder Stock Seal.
